For a leading international manufacturing environment, two Senior Category Managers are being recruited. In this role, the Senior Category Manager acts as the strategic owner of one or more high-impact material categories, specifically within Steel / Iron / Zamak or Brass / Bronze / Copper.
These categories are characterized by high spend, a complex and international supply base, multiple key suppliers, and significant business impact. The role combines group-level strategy with hands-on execution, operating within a European matrix organization and collaborating closely with procurement, engineering, R&D, operations, and commercial stakeholders across multiple countries.
In addition to strategic ownership, the role includes a strong tactical responsibility: actively managing suppliers, leading negotiations, executing sourcing trajectories, and remaining closely involved in operational decision-making. Ownership stays firmly with the Senior Category Manager, who directly drives outcomes.
Category strategy development
Analyze internal demand and external market developments
Define short- and long-term sourcing and category strategies
Align category plans with business and operational objectives
Act as strategic owner of assigned category clusters
Supplier (account) management
Act as Supplier Account Manager for key suppliers
Identify, evaluate, select, and develop suppliers
Lead contract negotiations and service level agreements
Monitor supplier performance, compliance, and delivery reliability
Drive continuous improvement and SRM initiatives
Sourcing & procurement execution
Lead RFQs, RFPs, and tender processes
Collaborate with engineering, legal, finance, and operations
Ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement
Maintain accurate data in ERP systems (SAP preferred)
Cost, value optimization & reporting
Identify and deliver cost-saving and value-creation initiatives
Apply TCO and should-cost models
Benchmark pricing and supplier performance
Track KPIs and present insights to senior leadership
Risk management & stakeholder management
Assess and mitigate supply chain risks
Ensure compliance with internal and external requirements
Act as the interface between procurement and internal stakeholders
Influence engineering, R&D, and commercial teams on sourcing decisions
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or similar
Minimum 7 years of experience in strategic sourcing or category management
Experience managing high-spend, high-complexity categories (preferably metals)
Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
Solid understanding of cost structures, should-cost thinking, and technical drawings
Experience with TCO models, supplier performance management, and risk mitigation
Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred)
Excellent command of English
